My dad gave me this coin and I am trying to research it for him. Maybe someone can help me since I am not a World Coin guy (yet). It appears to be a gold proof coin. I found a similar coin in this series of an Eagle on ebay and cannot find any examples of the Panda. The seller of the Eagle mentioned that the mintage is 10,000 but I cannot seem to confirm that fact.

Here is what I have found so far:

    Geographic Location: Cook Islands
    Denomination: 50 Dollars
    Year: 1992
    Composition: Gold
    Subject: Endangered Wildlife
Obverse Description: Crowned head right, date below
    Reverse Description: Panda
    Ruler Name: Elizabeth II
    Diameter: 25 mm
    Weight: 0.25 (oz.)
    Fineness: 0.583
    Actual Weight: (oz.) 0.146

If anyone has any additional links that I can go to research it (or any other info), I would appreciate it. I am curious of the value and the mintage numbers, as well as any other examples in this series for 1992. Thanks.

The NGC world coin guide shows others in the series but I don't see this one.

That is what is so strange about this. I see nothing anywhere about the 1992 $50 Panda. There is a 1991 $25 1/25 oz. 0.999 series that does show a Panda in the set.

I just want to know if ours is real or not. My dad said that he bought in on ebay about 15 years ago. I don't know why he did, since he didn't seem to know anything about it back then either.
