Not disagreeing with you. Just want to play devils advocate on the last part of your comment. If the auction before you sets new highs in sale price that could help you. A new precedent was set and the now "appraised" market value for your coin is arguably higher.

Yes, but a month later nobody has the money to spend on yet more examples. It's happened many times in the past. Many collectors in this category are pushing their budgets to the limit out of love for what they collect; these aren't lottery winners. I suspect the OP can testify. :)

The 4,500 was the high price all of the other 65 Reds that were not a plus grade have been selling in low to mid threes. If you look at even more price history on Hertiage where the 4500 sold, it has basically been the same price they were selling for in 2002. In 2009-2010 most were selling between 6-7k and those owners are buried in them right now. 2003-2009 most sold over 5k which again is a loss of value.

Yes if you bought in 93 it has appreciated nicely, but there are several people who bought 5-15 years ago that wouldn't be able to get back what they put into it at this time. A special coin from the lot may be able to push the sale price up, but overall a lot of those owners are buried for the time being.

Yeah. I guess the 09-s VDB might not be an investment coin. But who knows?

I got a solid beautiful chocolate-brown EF-40 (PCGS) and am very glad for it.

I'd prefer the ddo 55 myself. It's the only high dollar Lincoln I have any desire to own. I search for coins with exceptional eye appeal and I always find them easy to sell and at a premium. If your going to buy a s vdb in 65 I'd find a beauty with great surfaces color and strike and a cac sticker don't hurt either
