As a professional researcher I have loved the invention and development of the internet. Every year getting better. But, most people are not researchers and take the path of least resistance. I can look up a subject through 30 websites and see if they are all repeating each other, which happens most often. Then I can change directions to see if that helps or go directly to the library, the ultimate arbiter. Having spent many hours in large dead wood repositories, I know that answers can be found. My Ultimate Wish for the internet is to have the Library of Congress online and searchable, like the new website for "The Numismatist." Thanks for that: "The Numismatist"!!
I know little about krugerrands but it immediately struck me as fake. It just has that look of the modern poor quality fakes that I see all the time for the series I collect.
No question it is a fake. The beard was plain and did not continue to the ear. Also on the back the etching of the ground was poor and had no detail to it. Assisted by my grandson in looking carefully over it with a magnifier. This along with pictures from other sites prove so. Personnel note my eyes aren't very good my friends the help from my grandson was a huge help. Could feed it to the fish in the ocean ?
