Talking about ROMA auctions, I got this one from them... Electrum Hekte circa 450BC from Phokia obv. Womens Head rev. Swastika This coin is 50/gold 50/Silver
OK, I checked auction catalogue : It is 10 mm and weighs in at 2.54 gms. also says according too Bodenstedt there are four examples known.
Good stuff! I think yours is even rarer. I am trying to get the one with the lion/incuse calfs head. There are SO MANY designs, its almost if there were minting for collectors back in 450BC.
Thanks! Even better collection of Medieval/Renaissance/Baroque/1750-1918 material. I been collecting for 25 years, hope to never stop....to much fun.
*edit* => sorry ancientcoinguru, I've added the coin info for your coin-enjoyment, my sweet coin-friend ... LESBOS, Mytilene. EL Hekte – Sixth Stater Circa 478-455 BC Diameter: 10 mm Weight: 2.48 grams Obverse: Ram’s head right Reverse: Incuse bull’s head right Reference: Bodenstedt Em. 27; HGC 6, 954
@stevex6 what a marvelous golden ram/bulll! Great photos -- the side view makes it look extra thick, and wonderful Could you provide dimensions (including height) and weight? I'd appreciate it!
