Byzantine Empire: AV Solidus ND Phocas 602-10AD Constantinople Mint This guy went out by same method he got in. In 602, he usurped power, having the former emperor Maurice Tiberius beheaded, after he had to watch the same happen to his family. In 610, a General named Heraclius revolted, overthrew Phocas, then had the executioner remove his head.
I am still unemployed! So I got time, once I go back to work, I will not have much time for this, till next December. John

Are these issues hotly contested or are there any areas that are more active than others? I recognize most of the auction houses you listed above, but gold is just too far out of my reach so I do not follow it really. I am sure that there are areas which are kind of dormant and some which attract a number of buyers. Just curious because I have no experience.
wow, stil more solid gold hits panzerman! here's my last coin of maurice tiberius...while he still had his head.
Nice! Phocas was a nasty guy for sure. Roman Emperor Setimus Severus was even more sadistic in killing off opponents entire families.
That's one obverse type I definitely want of Justinian. Safe to say those are from the earlier part of his reign, right? I think mine is from the middle or close to it.
What can I say but I absolutely LOVE those coins!! For some inexplicable reason I keep hearing the theme song to that old James Bond movie 'Goldfinger'
There is an FDC specimen posted on www.sixbid.com ROMA AUCTION April 3rd.\ This coin is flawless like mine!
