When the Visgoths established their new Kingdom in Spain, the quality of their mints was pretty good. However just like with the Byzantines, their coinage went down hill, both in quality, and gold content.

    Well Chris, to be precise....

Main interest is in Worldwide gold coinage(not the modern stuff) My latest a proof set from Biafra 1969. This from a breakaway Nation that was wiped out by the Nigerian Military in 1970. Still a beautifull set. Probably 650BC to 1969 in gold.
I MAY start into Roman Silver Denarius, still debating...
    Also love US/Canada obsolete banknotes.

Really though you can get a decent one from Amazon/eBay/where ever for about $20. In grams mine starts at .01.

Yeah you should sir. If not, all of the "cool kids" here will make fun of you. :)

Seriously, though, its a helpful tool to evaluate your coins. Especially so with gold. Gold coins always had a lot of attention to them regarding weight, and since they do not react to other things they typically have never lost weight in the ground. Gold coins are theoretically the coins we should have the very best idea as to weights expected for.

Thanks @panzerman! Photos are wonderful, but do not tell me how big the coin is (for example, obols can be enlarged to the size of drachms using photography). And since many of us do not own gold, I am never sure if a gold coin weighs the same as its silver counterpart.

With the dimensions, I know exactly how big the coin is, and I can picture the coin in my head! It would be most appreciated if you could include the size and weight with each of your posts.
