My AV Pagoda ND Vengi Mint circa 1050AD from Eastern Chaluykas of the Deccan issued see DATA LABEL This is one weird coin. There were around 8 different rulers with strange punch designs. Not many known.
wow, another amazing gold coin! many of us collect well into the medieval period and that all gets posted on this thread. we don't really have an enforced cut off date or anything. we have several members which will be very delighted to see this coin eastern coin. i don't specialize in eastern coins (or anything else), but i did pick up this contemporary bronze coin from the kashmir region just north of the chalukyas. Jaga Deva, Kashmir Region AE stater, 18mm, 6g, 9h; Late 11th - Mid 12th Centuries. Obv.: Ja-Ga-De in Nagari script; King Jaga Deva facing. Rev.: Goddess Ardochsho/Lakshmi seated, enthroned with lotus stem, wearing earrings.
All great coins! Yours is outstanding since copper coins were always worn down by heavy use. Not to many people in those days carried a wallet full of gold coins.
Congrats again!! A very desirable and interesting coin!! Any Roman solidus' examples in your wonderful collection?? Only a very few of us here seem to have even one or two but all of us wish we did.
Very nice ancient India coin ! (In Indian numismatics often the border between Ancient and Medieval is put around 1200AD). Good to give some counterweight to all those boring Romans Also great provenance coming from the Adams collection.
Thanks. Yes, Dr. Adams had a lovely collection. His interests were same as mine, all Worldwide gold. He will be missed!
