Alexander "The Great" Tetradrachm 17.2 Grams 325-321 BC Obv: Head of Heracles draped with Nemean Lion Head Rev: Zues seated on throne perching Eagle w/Wreath in left field Excellent Condition If anyone has any information about this coin, or can steer me in the right direction to find info about this Tetradrachm, I would appreciate it greatly! I have been looking for a few years now and I have some info on it but I would like to get more. Have you seen it in any books or anywhere before? The markings are very specific. Thanks!!!
It's Philip III Arrhidaios, 323-317 BC, (Alexander's elder half-brother), issued in the name of Alexander III. Struck in Cilicia, but the exact location is uncertain, possibly Side.
Check CNG's archives. They have at least one with wreath in left field and Delta I below throne. I'm on my phone right now and can't copy and paste links like I'd normally do, but here is one such example accessed from their archives. This one was sold at a fixed price rather than auction. http://cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=31501
Interesting. The coin TIF listed attributes it to Alexander III, but this one is Philip III... https://www.cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=211050
The search terms I used were "Alexander III tetradrachm, wreath". Other hits from those terms also show this coin as from Phillip III as JA suggested. I can't easily look at them all right now but wonder if they were recently reassigned to Phillip III.
Thanks for all the help y'all. Im a little confused as well. I cannot tell if its minted by Alexander III or Phillip II. It appears that John Anthony found the exact coin on the link in his comment b/c the wreath has nothing inside of it. I noticed some wreaths have signs and stuff in the wreath.
Thanks TIFF for the help as well. I appreciate all the comments and help. Have you been collecting for long?

There were so many of these coins minted under various Macedonian kings and magistrates, in so many different locations. The varieties are mind-boggling. I don't even pretend to understand how some of them get assigned to which ruler and which mint. I typically just search for attributions on CNG and other sites - I haven't done much reading on the Alex III silvers, simply because I don't find them terribly interesting, but don't take that as a criticism of the coin, just my opinion.
Yeah I understand, thats why I was looking for years ha ha. I just got burnt out so I gave up for awhile until I saw some posts on this cool site. Have you been collecting long?
I've been at it for a few years, I think TIF also. But we have a few board members that have been collecting their entire lives.
Yes, there's a selling forum at the bottom of the page. CT takes no responsibility for the transactions. But mostly it's about discussing coins.
