I came across this penny today that looked pretty cool. But i am thinking it's a post mint problem coin. I know you can give a coin rainbow tone by baking it, but can you melt it? What do you folks think? http://cgi.ebay.com/2007-Lincoln-ce...612QQihZ014QQcategoryZ524QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Post mint damage!!! This seller has sold similar coins in the past... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330121580795 Definately Post mint Garbage... I'm thinking torch...
Spend a few minutes in this guys feedback and you can see this coin "doctor" is a piece of garbage seller preying on newbies..
wow, he just melted areas of that coin into oblivion. Interesting, but he definitely is a scammer since he's selling these as errors.
You are probably right about being post mint, but it still seems strange to me. How did they do all of that (whatever it is) with little or no affect on the letters. The letters in "GOD", "ONE CENT", AMERICA" and "LIBERTY" appear to be almost free of distortion and damage. I can tell you that it was not a "blow torch".
I sent this seller a message : " WOW that's a mint error? I had no idea that there is a torching process. Can you please explain this error to me? " no respose yet
Yes...rather nasty that someone has paid $25 for that one though. Certainly done with some sort of very high power flame torch...
I love a good challenge.. Its time to fire up my torch, and see if I can re-create this "error" If I figure anything fun out I'll post up the results
Actually this is done using electicity. The torch would create more damage and you can see where he hooked it up. I bought a Sac that a scientist used magnetics to compact the coin on itself without losing the image. I wish he was still doing that as it was really cool and about the size of a dime.
"ITEMS FOR AUCTION I CAN NOT GRADE COINS, I AM NOT A COIN DEALER. I DO MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO BE HONEST AND ACCURATE IN THE ITEMS DESCRIPTION[/SIZE]. I ALWAYS INCLUDE A GOOD PHOTO OF THE ITEM, SOMETIMES MORE THAN ONE. " lol what a bunch of bull
I am positive that this was not done with any kind of torch. That would absolutely remove the high points first with a preference for high thin parts (i.e. letters). I strongly suspect that electricity would do the same thing, but it does some weird things at high voltages. I am not sure how magnetism works, but that would be my first choice of the 3. Anyone know how micro waves work on metal?
He has to use EFFORT to be honest...lmao Bet he also has a few mint condition classic cars in his backyard too
