The original CC Mint press being re-established in Carson City after a long stint in Denver. http://www.nevadaappeal.com/news/20897804-113/nevada-appeal-at-150-aug-22-1967-historic
=) Thats awesome, and to think that one of us may own a coin that was minted on that very press just a few days later, oh if coins could tell their stories
Actually, I do own a medal struck on that press, as can anyone who visits the old Carson City Mint, aka the Nevada State Museum.
And here's the press as it resides today. Took these pics when I wen up there last June for a big thread about the museum I did for ccf. I even took my 89cc back for a homecoming reunion I also have a handful of commemorative rounds struck from it over the last 10yrs or so if you'd like me to dig em out and post pics...
That's crazy we double posted about the medals kurt. Guess I should post em. I even have one signed by the Nevada governor
Good thing no mint was ever in Illinois. My buddies there at the Chicago Coin Club tell me they're thinking of making one of the federal prisons a formal home for ex-governors.
Ok guys, here they are. All were struck by the press in this thread. They're the only modern "coins" with a legitimate CC mint mark and are a great exo set to try and put together to compliment a classic CC collection but good luck finding them all as many are limited striking of 100 or less. The last two I bought directly and saw the Fremont one being pressed (ken hopple, the chief coiner, likes to tell people to touch the planchet first so "your dna will be pressed into the metal during the strike")... The others I bough directly from Ken out of his personal collection...
