Am posting this with hope that this will show up some day.

This was sent with signature confirmation which never happened. I suspect that it was just left at the door as it only kept stating online that it was 'out for deliver' even months after it was sent. The post office in Texas got to the point that they would not answer the phone anymore and were the worst shady people I ever dealt with.
Stolen by somebody was: MS70 PCGS $50 First Strike 2010 American Buffalo .9999 Fine Gold Piece. No. 16283532

Its a real shot in the dark. Coin was bought when gold was at $1,750.00 and ounce and the person that ordered it was buying many gold pieces on ebay. He said it never arrived. I believe it did but of course with the post office not even answering calls it was basically ignored and left me hanging. I only insured it for $500 because that was the limit online. I did not know it could of been insured for more had I gone to the post office which I will never make that mistake again. There was another post office trying to help me but they ran into the same problem of not getting any answers. After trying for so long I decided to at least get some of my money back. At that time they told me the window for filing a claim had closed so I could not even get the $500. The coin was probably busted out of the original holder and may have been regarded is what I think. I can only hope someone spots it but its only hope. This is all I can do now.

    Thanks! Bob

Who is, quote, "the person who ordered it," unquote, that you mentioned in your post? Is that you?

If I understand this correctly, you (or somebody) bought this gold coin online, had it sent with signature confirmation, and after it didn't arrive accused the post office of just setting it on the front steps without leaving a "We missed you" slip and coming back later to deliver it or waiting for the deliveree to come to the post office to sign for it and take delivery. Right?

Uh, yeah, I'd say it's a long shot. Best of luck!

So you sold it, and underinsured it. Did you get the $500 from your claim? That is all the po is required to compensate you. The rest is up to you to recover, if it is worth it.

The most cost effective way I can think of to do that is to fill out a claim with NCIC. Maybe if it turns up you might be able to do something but if "your own estimated value" was $500 and that was paid, it's a steep hill to climb.

I sold it and shipped it. Then it was out for delivery and it just kept saying out for delivery eveytime I checked for months. That's my guess, that it was just left at the address without the postman getting any signature. The guy said he never got it and the post office quit answering the phone when I called and never returned any messages. I do not expecxt to ever get compensated. Been too long. I just feel better I said something anyways.

No police report. Hard to do something that's on the other side of the country especially if nobody over there offers no help or support. I am in Ohio and the buyer is in Texas. I went through the post office and learned from that. A big learning experience. Insurance is more important than signature confirmation. I did not get anything from insurance. The guy was issued a refund because I could not prove anything. Then after all the battling I was told too late to file an insurance claim. I think it was 45 days. The post office that was trying to help me took a lot of time so I missed the boat on the $500 claim also. Not crying about it as I moved on but thought I would share this anyways. There is always a chance. Like looking for a black dog in the dark is all.

For future reference when something like this happens your FIRST call (after realizing it was indeed stolen) needs to be to the usps inspector general. They investigate postal thefts.

We all feel for you though. Sucks when something like this happens :(

I did have a post office investigating that said it was their job. That was a mistake I think because nothing was done. The General should of been chosen.

After all that the first thing I will do is send it at the post office in person with full insurance. They cannot get out of that as long as its done in time. That signature confirmation does not hold water. I believe their only guarantee if its not signed for is they will refund your money. $1-2 or what ever that is. Insurance will pay the full claim if they lose it.

Contact the Postmaster General, and accuse the USPS of theft of services, as they did not fulfill their contract with you, and request reimbursement for your loss. While getting anything more than your cost for the Signature Confirmation service is a long shot, the USPS doesn't like stories of this type going public. The USPS is responsible for its employees actions, and the carrier did one of the following, neither of which were the service you purchased:

    1. Left the package at the addressee's doorstep without obtaining the required signature;
    2. Pocketed the package for himself / herself.
The carrier obviously did not leave notice of attempted delivery, and return the package to the local post office for pickup, or 15 days afterward the package would have been returned to you if not signed for and delivered to the addressee.

Yes. Do this every month or two until they get off their A and pay you the $500. That's the max they are going to pay but they will do it to shut you up.

The mailman probably delivered it and never scanned the tracking and the person kept it and pulled a fast one. I've had countless packages that for whatever reason end up delivered yet the mailman forgets to scan them as so. I have morals so I'd never then file a claim stating I didn't get it but I know for a fact that many on Ebay will do anything to swindle someone out of something.

Also generic bullion coin I don't think there's really any hope of recovering it as a thief would likely crack it out and then there's no way to tell it from any other buffalo.

I think you may have something there...

I have noticed that postal carriers have not had me sign for sig-confirm deliveries to my place once or twice...But almost always do.

Its been too long to bring that up. Probably close to 2 years. That's why I just got its grading number listed here just to have done something and maybe have anyone else learn from this. I do not expect any results except by mere chance. If there is a place that the number can get on a list of stolen coins that I would like to do. I do believe the number is meaningless now as it was prob broken out long ago. Just a chance that is slim next to none is all. I would like it more that someone got persecuted than me even getting any money back at all. Again, nothing expected in either case.

All other things being equal, this thread will now appear in a Google search for the cert. I just confirmed that by searching "PCGS 16283532."
