Jim says he's going to salvage it. It is gorgeous enough to build a house around.

I see a lot of valuable architectural salvage. The staircase the Palladian window. The doors and trim all may be oak. The carriage house has a lot of interesting and salable exterior trim as does the main house. Not sure what the flooring is either but I do well with recycled and reclaimed flooring. The carriage house actually looks earlier ca 1870 or so

If you get the chance, search under the brick sidewalks and patio. It's a lot of work but I have found a lot of cool stuff that way. Another spot to check is the dirt around the door to the crawlspace.

I actually did pull up a couple of bricks right before we left, turned up two crusty iron items. Not finished with that place by a long shot!

Dig it all and toss the rubbish at home in the barrel! find/buy/borrow the dates you want in the best condition possible to learn the actual vdi #'s. Not dug coins altered by 110+ yrs.of rain/soil minerals then run your machine at the greatest sensitivity settings you can stand to listen to and you will get the oldest dates before someone sells/levels the land! There's a few gold/silver goodies there too! show us pls....HH

A lake got drained a couple of years ago here in Denver, It was an old aquatics center. ca. 1890"s. I was new detector(so to say). there was a couple guys that were sifting 3 =4 foot deep along the shore. I wish I would have asked them what they found.

1827? Whoa. Whenever I see a post like this I wish there was a way to find out how the coin ended up in the place where it was found. I would love to know what the coin went through before it ended up buried only to get exhumed who knows how many years later. Maybe someone will figure out how to read history like a ticker tape and we'll have the ability to go back and see someday. Until then, I'll keep making things up. Excellent find!

Thanks for sharing the video. The house is very cool, but I can see the undertaking would be enormous to restore. I love going out with my metal detector, but mostly it's been on beaches here on Long Island. I haven't found much, but after 2 years I have contributed immensely to my retirement fund; over $8 at last count!
