So it has no value? How can you tell if it's proof?

    Yes, it's a legit 1968 no S dime.
It's not a 1968 no S PROOF dime, though, as it was minted in Philadelphia.

Never be sorry about questions like this. This is how we learn and every single one of us has been were you are. Ask about anything and everything. Knowlidge is power.

You won't know if you don't ask. You may not like some of the answers you get here, but you'll always get the truth. Sometimes it will come with a little humor or sarcasm, but truth, none the less.
Stick around, you'll have fun, too.

The no S variety is a proof. Regular strike dimes from Philly all have no S.

Here is a 1970 version of what you're hoping to find:

That is definitely a legitimate No S Dime folks.

However, it is not "THE" No S Dime.

A whole new generation of collectors is upon us. Specifically, those who are completely unfamiliar with mint marks and when they started appearing on every circulation coin with the exception of the Zincoln Cent.

Proof coins are specially made. All the "Proof" dimes that years carried the "S" mintmark for San Francisco except for a few made in error without the S. All the "business strike" dimes that year were made in Philadelphia and didn't carry any mintmark.

Jerry, proofs are struck on specially prepared planchents and struck at a heavier tonnage, notice from the post above the mirror like fields which even in moderately worn condition one should still notice the difference. But mostly notice the rim, sharp and square versus round and smooth.

Feel free to post pics and ask questions. Start a new thread for each. It's easier to follow that way.
