My, how time flies, eh? ... we're already 3 months into 2016 (amazing) Last year I did the same OCD-chore => I continued to update my 2015 version of this thread throughout the coin-year (it may have been nothing special to you dudes, but it proved to be very useful for me, so I'm gonna do it again!!) #2 is tops for me but that hoof is a close runner up in my book. I'm hard on coins like 4, 5 and 8 because I have enough porous coins, weak mintmarks and fourrees to last me. MMy experience is that such coins are not as long term satisfying as I thought when they were purchased so I need a really cheap price compared to well worn coins with good surfaces and strikes. The other coins on the list will be hard to upgrade.
Congrats Steve!! It looks like it's been a great year for you so far!! I especially love the ladies and that cool Thessalian Obol! Very nice Chris!! The third you posted definitely caught my eye---Just lovely!!
Hey gang, thanks again for chiming-in ... this chore really is merely for my own benefit, but it's cool that you dudes are on-board and interested enough to comment (thanks => you dudes rock) Here is a semi-interesting stevex6-coin-fact (I've attached my coin's prices, with auction-tax and postage, duty, etc): Coin #: 1 = $175 ... Severina 2 = $175 ... Thessaly Incuse, Horse-Head & Wheat 3 = $130 ... Sicily Akragas, Counter-stamp 4 = $140 ... Orbiana Denarius 5 = $22 ... Hut-coin 6 = $273 ... Hoof!! 7 = $72 ... India Punch-coin 8 = $158 ... Baktria Fourree 9 = $129 ... Baktria Authentic => well, I'm on the same page as Mentor ... my favourite "by far" is the Hoof, but the Akragas counterstamp was a close-enough second (honestly, I was willing to pay twice as much for that cool Akragas, so it was a very pleasant surprise to score that puppy for $130 !!!) Oh => and I "love" them all ... and that poor lil' Hut-coin has a soft-spot in my heart ($22 ... wha???) Oh => and please "do not" turn this into a thread where you tell me that I over-paid for one/all of my coins => it's a done deal (I'm livin' with all of my sweet coin-decisions, my friends) ... man, I like this place
I have to go with the Thessalian chalkous as my favorite, just because the type is so unusual - not many collectors are going to pull that one out of their pockets. According to my records, I've acquired about 100 coins since Jan 1 and sold 79. One of the highlights of my buying has been RR coinage. Here's a handful, four of which are ex-BCD, none of which belong to me anymore. (I hope you all love them as much as I do.) I ordered A History of the Roman Republic, by Klaus Bringmann, because it got good reviews and because it cost $11 shipped as a used textbook. Question: Is Michael Harlan's Roman Republican Moneyers And Their Coins worth spending $50 on? Or is most of the information available for free on the web?
Sweet 2016 scores, JA ..... yah, I guess your coin accumulation and "retention-time" is quite a bit different than mine, eh? (oh, I hope your new biz is doing well) I am also a huge fan of RR coinage ... but oddly, I have yet to score a sweet RR-example so far in 2016 (AE and/or AR) ... hmmm, I may have to rectify that, eh? => thanks for posting, my very special coin-friend!! (eat a bun) Curious? ... do people still have snow on the ground? (we are currently getting some precipitation, but the temp is hovering right around freezing lately, so the roads and walk-ways are deadly slippery!!) .... ooowwww exciting, Spring is only a month or two away!!
We haven't had snow on the ground since the last ice age, and maybe not even then Snow is only a good thing if accompanied by mountains and ski lifts
