My kids enjoy the odd bit of coin cleaning... we buy coins with potential from ebay etc and then clean them for fun. I have been known to sell a few on too.
My lad George decided that for his birthday he would like to buy coins and clean them, selling them on to see what if any profit he could make...that way he reckoned he could get a better selection of xbox games second hand..
so... I said he could have £20 to spend. I'd bid for them and he had a buffer of 10 percent. Luckily he won the coins here for £22 , so he made the most of the buffer!
I agreed that they looked to be good coins under the green stuff, but warned him that they dont always clean well and in fact he could end up losing money. He wasnt put off. The coins arrived yesterday.....here they are, 10 for £22. Thats about $30??

He was happy with them in hand, but knew he had his work cut out to get them clean enough to make a few quid...
He knows how to clean them....and with a bit of supervision, he rolled up his sleeves and got to work on them this evening. I could see a coin which if it turned out well could get him his money back in one go....possibly. He took three hours and I let him get on with it, providing only encouragement and the tools to do the job. When he finished he had a grin on his face and I could tell he was happy.... I am not surprised, he had done a great job. I pointed out that he could tidy up two of them if he wished in order to get them a bit better and he took it on board and did so.

I hope you will agree, they are pretty damn good for an 11 year old!!
three I believe to be barbarous or unofficial coins and there are a couple of beauties in there. my favourite couple are these....

I havent had time to help him with the attribution yet and in fact I'll let him have a go before I give him any pointers. He is going to sell them in the next few weeks on ebay , so I'll keep you updated as to how they get on and whether he turns a profit.....
    fingers crossed!!

The Gallienus stag is wonderful. He should be able to recoup his investment right there, and the rest is gravy.

Outstanding effort! It is great to see a youngster apply himself towards a goal. I would also say he appears to have the patience and knowledge to do a great job judging from the photo's.

Great job restoring those coins! Fantastic work! When I first saw the uncleaned versions, I could not believe the cleaned versions are the same coins. Wow! Hope you make good money selling them!

    Wonderful results!!!

Making a profit is an absolute certainty!! The coins are quite impressive and most in excellent condition, especially for a 'uncleaned' lot. Your son did a terrific job!!!

How the hell? You could make like a 500-1000% profit.
