Nope. While Congress was dealing with important issues (TP quality, travel expenses to and from their offices and the big meeting room, etc.) I managed to get MD to secede from the Union -- at US Gov't cost.
Any particular tells we can point to? I mean, yeah, the slab doesn't match the slab in the auctions, but it could've been reholdered, right? The lighting and focus on the eBay shots is poor enough to hide a lot of the details that would otherwise condemn it. I'm suspicious of the barcode, too, but I'm not sure what to point out to convince a non-collector.
Seller replied but didn't really answer my questions. He doesn't speak German so why is the description in German then? He didn't say why the US is excluded as shipping destination, and just said "If you want to USPS shipping is can. Thank you" Come on, auntie Helga's English is better... this is a scam.
Looks to me like a throwaway account from a responsible numismatist (we....ahem, they're out there) sniped it at an impossible overbid so nobody would get taken when it appeared a genuine buyer was about to be abused.
I'd like to thank "them". (Heck, I wouldn't mind joining "them", but I'm not sure how you set up a throwaway account without eBay catching on...)
For the record, I had nothing to do with this auction aside reporting it like everyone else. Think about it. Ebay is all about the buyers, and they turn a pretty much deaf ear to any buyer actions which don't directly rip off sellers. Even then, the seller better be prepared for a fight. We talk about this all the time. It's not difficult to create a throwaway. What's the seller gonna do? Give you a NPB strike for a counterfeit you can prove? I don't think so.
