Well, thank you all for the substantial and fun greetings! It is really nice to see so many coins that I am either actively collecting or have an interest in being posted here on a regular basis.

@dougsmit , I think I am lucky to have a daughter that is interested in history and science and just how cool the world around her is. I KNOW I am lucky to have a fiance who enjoys my enjoyment of my hobbies. I try to limit the amount of "oooh! look at this" moments to the special ones so she doesn't get burned out by seeing too much stuff that probably is not that interesting to her. Luckily she was a history major like me, so there is at least a baseline appreciation for anything that piques her interest.

So, I am always in flux about how I want to present my collection. Currently, I have everything that is photographed on photo bucket, which is still missing Russian and much other stuff. Even the vast majority of British and British India. I am thinking of starting a Forvm gallery but it is such a large project that for right now, pb it is.

Above is a fun little Probus that I picked up for relatively cheap ($15). I have really enjoyed the Aorta book because I really like understanding better how obverse, reverse and legend types are put together and then being able to identify and collect all of a mint's issues from a design/year.

Also, as @Mat will attest, I am pretty much a crazy person because I really like to only spend no more than $15 per coin (including shipping where applies) so the challenge is to find good coins at low prices so I can flesh out sets. In my pb account, there are some pretty rough examples, but I can at least identify and mostly read legends which is my bare minimum of what I want to buy. Also some were included with other purchases and I never throw anything away.

I'm wordy, sorry. I also do not mind the opinions of others, especially if I am not as knowledgable about a subject as I should be.

 

Like the Probus. We have at least one Probus specialist (maybe two or three). Here is one of favorites:

 

I have yet to find that type in a condition/price ratio that satisfies me. It is frustrating, especially seeing a nice coin like that.

 

Thanks, but like I said before, I am a bottom feeder, so many of my coins are only good to fine condition. Here is another Probus from my collection:

 

It's one of the marvels of this hobby that you can spend pretty much a lifetime building a worthy collection of coins under $15. About half my collection falls into this category, with the under $50 bracket covering over 80% of all my coins. A $20 Probus I really like:

... sadly, I am from the other end of the spend-spectrum => I am very impulsive and sometimes I end-up spending a bit too much and/or I snag a coin that I really don't "need" ... but on the bright-side, my trigger-happy trait has allowed me to amass a pretty sweet collection of animal-coins!!



I only have two very humble examples of Probus (oh, but they are both two of my few examples that hover around your $15 target-mark)

May I suggest uploading here a little larger photos so we can see details better than with those tiny photobucket thumbnails. Use the 'Upload a file' tab at the bottom and start with images about 800 pixels wide or more. I use images that are a bit larger and the software here reduces them for display unless you click on them to take a closer look. We don't want full camera size monsters but it is easier to appreciate coins if you can see them.

Probus is easy to like and there are enough of them to fill every budget and desire. I do not have any of the rarities but Probus, the fancy dresser of all emperors, is never boring.

Hello and welcome Nick. I collect in the imperial era of the empire and am usually a day late and a dollar short on viewing these threads. Here's one of my of Probus.

 

@Jwt708: I like the tet. I do not have Egyptian issues yet of his. Yours is pretty nice as is that of @stevex6. @dougsmit, the Probus selections are quite nice. I have a small run of the Soli Invicto coins with XXIQ, XXIS, XXIT, currently. I like trying to get groups together when possible.

I will screw around with the photos when I have more time to try and make them the size I see above.

 

I guess I'm the last to welcome you Nick...You'll love the posts and the 'guys' here at CT.

I'm a mix of budget and impulse, but my fixed income/retired status helps keep me a bit more disciplined than I'd otherwise be LOL
