SO stoked that the Newman Numismatic Portal is now up and running! www.newmanportal.org Got a coin you'd like some more information about? Annual Reports of the US Mint are included (which minted many world coins over the years). Perhaps the NNP has an article on your coin! I was perusing some information in an old coin magazine called Mehl's Numismatic Monthly from 1908. Just one page had all this history: US Additions to Italian King Emmanuel III's coin collection, adding "In God We Trust" back to the US currency, and even a paragraph on some coin hucksters whose dastardly dealings the magazine found "distasteful to us to be obliged to report". I guess some things never change, huh?
There was actually a case of this happening recently, but it was only because of a judge's order that a coin thief's face, name and city of residence be made public. I think this was in an article in Coin World or CoinAge just a year ago. The thief was good, really good, with his nimble, light fingers at coin show tables when the sellers were distracted.
