How do you feel about this ? 2019 50th anniversary domed shaped moon landing coins three usual sizes plus a possible 5oz 2024 Basketball coins which gives more time between the domed Baseball & Basketball coins . http://www.coinweek.com/opinion/coin-analyst-domed-basketball-coins-likely-miss-hit-issued-2019/
I kind of like the design on the Paris minted 40th Anniv. bullion piece. I think the Baseball piece was interesting. I'm not interested in adding more "domed coins" with different designs simple because of their shape. Gets on soap box: I really wish the mints would call these what they are, collectible bullion pieces made of Ag/Au. They are not coins, IMO. No one in their right mind is going to use a 1 oz. Au as a $50 coin, nor is anyone in their right mind going to use a 1 oz. Ag coin as a $1 coin (of course, there have been exceptions to this, but "in their right mind" is the key to my argument).<<steps down from soap box>> I do add some of these bullion pieces to my collection when I like the design and/or the cause, in the case of commems. I do this because I enjoy collecting them, but I do not believe they are coins. Just neat designs made from PM.
I would say the space themed coins will always have collectors wanting them to add to their collections of either coins or space memorabilia. But I just don't see the basketball coins being a big seller.
The moon coin could end up being pretty cool depending on the design they go for it. I am somewhat optimistic on how that one will turn out. The basketball one however is being set up to be an absolute flop. The sane design on the baseball one only worked because of how fitting the imagery was to the coin. As a one off it worked, repeating/recycling that style gets very old very quickly. It will basically just be a carbon copy with a basketball instead of a baseball, been there done that already. The mintage ended up being to high for the baseball and it has a much larger fan base. Obviously anything can happen, but it is far more likely that one will be selling below issue price while it is still available from the mint
I have no problem with the Mint trying to sell such pieces, but I wish they were subject to certain "Truth in Advertising" laws by grouping all of them in a "Suckers" category. Chris
Whew, for a second there I thought this thread was gonna be about your plans to legally marry your collection Hollywood
