I picked up a worn denarius of Caracalla as part of a group and was trying to look it up using ERIC II (a very helpful and reasonably priced book IMO). I think this may be ERIC bust 3 of Caracalla but the reverse seems to be ERIC reverse 43 of Geta. The legends are not clear but the reverse type with its distinctive shape trophy should be enough to attribute the coin? Is this a mule between types of the two brothers, or is this a pure Caracalla denarius? Please post your thoughts as well as any numismatic mule coins or mule subject coins. John
Thanks Doug! I don't have that RIC volume but looking Caracalla "RIC 13" up on acsearch it seems there exist aureus and denarius versions of this coin. The denarius is listed as R1 in one listing and R2 in another. The aureus sold for $27,000+...
ERIC and Aorta have missing coins. The author is encouraging people to add them on his website because he admits he does not have all possible combinations. I have found a few bronzes not listed as well. Nice coin!
RIC 13 is rated common for the denarius and rare for the aureus. There are two varieties, 13a which has a draped bust and 13b, which is draped and cuirassed.
