Based on these pictures, do you think it is worth it to have it graded? What would you grade it? It was in a cardboard promo from the 60s, held in place with tape across the face. There may be minute tape residue on the coin in that area (specifically near Unum).
Unless you really want it in a slab I wouldn't spend the money. It's probably just an AU coin at the best and might even get a details grade because of where the tape was. Put it in a plastic airtite capsule - much cheaper.
No, I would not have this coin graded if it were mine. It is a very common date and appears to have been cleaned at some time in the past. I would grade this coin at between VF-35 and XF-40. Soaking it in a bowl of Acetone will remove tape residue, but it will not restore lost luster.
I would agree this would not be worth the money. It is obviously a weak struck O Mint. It more than likely is an AU at least XF details but hard to tell from here. If I owned this coin I would consider first cleaning what appears to be some form of tape. First let me start with this sin I am about to commit. Second be sure to try this first with a silver coin not worth much .. like a 1964 Quarter or Dime. Third try acetone with proper procedures. Fourth try Coin Luster Dip with proper procedures. Proper procedure can be found on Coin Talk Forum Site. This if done correctly may help the value up to $40-$50. If done wrong could make this worth $15 The question you need to answer is .. Are you willing to gamble today ??
I disagree with the concensus, it looks like a possible weak strike unc to me-ms63/64 Can't tell for sure if I am looking at mint luster or not, so I'm only about 90% sure. Probably not worth slabbing unfortunately
Not worth slabbing but worth keeping. I don't advise on cleaning because I don't do it. Conservation? Not worth it. If you decide to clean, good luck!
After sobering up a bit, I retract my above statement (post #7) the coin probably is in xf-au condition,
