Hi All; I like to know if anyone know how to remove this off this coin. Or do I need to get the professional to take it off. I posted the picture of the coin. The dealer I've bought it from said it will take work and also dipping it into a solution. My issue is would that hurt the coin by dipping it ?? Any help would be helpful.
Since that appears to be a 1925-s, you might consider some professional work on it. Impossible IMO to figure a grade without all that crud, but an MS-64 can fetch $1,000. 65 and 66s go for multiple five figures. Anything below 62 and it's probably not worth it.
Sorry to say, but that "crud" appears to have "eaten" into the surfaces. I agree with @Santinidollar, if you are going to do anything, let a professional try to conserve it.
I agree with the opinions posted. I don't think there's much hope, and even if all that crud is just crud on the surface, it's going to affect the coin's skin, just because it's been sitting there keeping sulfur away from the metal. Not knowing what the crud is, I'm not even sure I'd try acetone in this case. The most I personally would ever do this coin is give it a distilled water soak. Anything beyond that, and you're looking at either a lot of work or a lot of money invested in this coin to conserve it.
