I was watching the Coin Vault on Shop-at-Home TV this evening and they seemed to indicate that this is the last year for the golden dollar? I have heard this rumour before, but it this really true? On another note, I think the $1 note should be eliminated and the use of a $1 coin should be implimented. I feel the only way for the mint to encourage the use of $1 coins would to ultimately eliminate the $1 note. David
Coin vault will do anything and everything to get you to buy their product, I personally believe them to be idiots, regardless if that is an innapropriate comment or not. I have seen their products before, they dump them all on my dealer for face value when they can't sell them anymore. CRAPPY PRODUCTS. As for the rumor of the end of the golden dollar, I haven't heard of that yet.
I don't think the average collector could afford the Coin Vaults products. I think its geared more towards investors. I can't afford anything from the Coin Vault for sure. They sell the high end items such as certified coins, etc... David
WE are talking about HSN right? Because the knowlegeable collector wouldn't buy a dang thing from there.
I believe the SAC will run through 2005. Then, it looks like these Presidential dollars (similiar to the state quarter program) will be forced down our throats. Yes, that means the likes of Polk, Hayes, Harding and Clinton will soon grace our dollar coins.
Ah, I have read about the Presidential series. Can't wait for the Bill Clinton dollar! LOL! But seriously, the mint needs to make dollar coinage that everybody isn't gonna hoard. If they are ever to get rid of the dollar note, they need a coin that will not be as likely to be hoarded like the statehood quarters and the new Jefferson nickels are. David
I hope it is not a banned practice to give a website, but I would recommend www.smalldollars.com for anyone interested in small dollars (SBAs and Sackys). It has everything you needed to know (and more) about the history and varieties of these coins. It does not necessarily have all the latest gossip on the dollar program, but it is a good reference source, especially for patterns, tests, etc. leading up to the Sacky. (That address actually redirects you to another one, but it will get you there). For collectors of counterstamped coins, watch your pocket chnage, as I know that this web address has been stamped on many coins, which were then put into circulation.
Love that website...they also have a design I would love to see for all future US dollar coins: http://home.earthlink.net/~smalldollars/dollar/2000ml.html
The more I think about it, I am tired of presidential coin designs. I think we need to go back to the days of Liberties, Indians, and animals. All those are very american. David
The SAC dollar will be made in 2005. The presidential dollar bill is still in the house and senate committees. No action is forthcoming as of today.
