These have proven to be a hard find. taken with my 80$ cell phone. I have been searching these for 3 1/2 years. probably only found 3 maybe four dif. eexamples.
whats so hard about finding a 1988 d? if you want to pay the shipping and the cost of the coins i'll send hundreds to you
One of the most common coins in Northern California bank rolls, along with all the other Denver, and Denver Shield cents with no errors. I found a 1988-D doubled die a couple of months ago.
I guess i deleted RPM. Between the mass amount struck and the plating issues. The RPMs are hard to find.
In New England anyway, post-1980 Denver mint pennies are pretty rare. I'll find 10-20 Philadelphia coins for every Denver issue. Older dates seem to be better mingled, and I find "D" nickels, dimes, and quarters pretty regularly - even brand new ones. But for whatever reason, pennies stay close to home (where they're minted).
The first I cannot identify. It looks a lot like the second pic. Maybe a lds The D below is rpm 3 -copper coins
@ theshoegazer I rarely get any foreign coins either. If I do they are Canadian. i Live in Colorado. the same goes for Philadelphia coins. Probably 20 to 30 times as many.
If you look at the other outer devices like the last 8 of the date, and I'm sure the L of liberty, and IGWT. You will notice they are flatter near the rim. The same thing happened to the mint mark. It is splayed open, and to the East there is split plating that looks like doubling. It is die deterioration, and split plating. That is my humble opinion. I come across those regularly, and I used to think they were RPM's too.
The first I might agree. The second has separation lines and a tilt. Neither has a burst in the plating. or ( splayed open) thanks for the input though.
Where is the secondary image? If it's doubled there should be a part of the second image somewhere. All I see is a fat, flattened edge towards the rim of the coin, and a crack through the plating with zinc rot. Maybe it's because you don't see many Denver cents. Next time I find one I'll post it on this thread.
I have to agree with tomfiggy on this, but the images to me are still not good enough to be 100% you have the coin in hand so you be the final judge
I live in Denver thats all I see. I have probably looked at a couple thousand or more 83-89 d cents. I do know what you are talking about. Lets chalk it up to bad picks. the best I could do. The edges arent flattened towards the rim, i wouldnt have posted them. Thanks again
