cletis faye: Did you buy the watch at Baltimore Harbor? That's where the Constitution is moored. I took the tour one time when I was there.
It seems somebody beat me too it this week. They bought the entire bin guess he is humping them of flea bay as there wasn't really anything of either value or interest to the coin type buyers. But I did score to great ones Do these bring back memories, At one of the local small amusement parks in the metro area, they had a shooting gallery with cork long guns and the targets were packages of cigarettes. One trip I had won two cartons total when they ran out of the brand my father smoked. They had to let me finish the the number of shots that we paid for. They gave out tokens of a similar type to collect on another day.
I just found out that these were made in the 30's Groetchen Tool and Mfg. Co from another member on another forum.
Does anybody no what the cursive lettering means? apothecaries weight, equivalent to 60 grains or one eighth of an ounce. it is to bad that somebody made a mess of the one side, but for the cost on it can see if I can remove most of the scratches. One of the state series that was sold years ago.
Apothecary weights are neat collectibles, Circus. I wouldn't mind picking up a few at some point. Off hand, I don't know what the "3y" means, but I'll do a little digging to see if I can find anything. Bruce
I found out a few things about your apothecary weight, Circus. Although the cursive writing appears to read "3y" (at least to me ), it's actually a stylized "3 ij" which is the symbol used to denote 2 drachms. Previously, the term "dram" was used but it was changed to "drachm" in 1900 to avoid confusion in regard to the term dram being used in other applications of weight. The symbol for 1 drachm would be "3j", and "3iij" for three drachms. Apparently, most of these were brass. Yours looks more copper by the picture, but that may be because of the lighting. Bruce
Bruce you are correct It looks like a Zy with dots above to me, it is brass and it was listed as a foreign token on the mount. But for the cost I can probably polish the scratches out
I wish someone would tell my wife how awesome I am, Jack. She wouldn't believe it, but might give me the benefit of the doubt and give me a...Oh, never mind, that's not going to happen. Bruce
Found a neat Illinois retailers occupation token today, I know its not worth much but I like tax tokens.
