What is the punishment of breaking this rule?

Loss of licensing rights and/or lawsuit, I would imagine

Hmmm, so I guess it's not a good idea to have Canadians mail you these coins in exchange for our presidential dollars

Defiant7,I can understand if it applied to medal-coins,but to impose restrictions on coins that are supposedly going to be issued for circulation,it is,to be quite frank, absolutely ridiculous.

The Vancouver 2010 Olympic coins are available in our store. They are not available for shipment outside Canada at this time. Please call 604-689-2230 to place an order or get more detailed information on the program.

This was taken off the internet.

I think it applies to direct sellers and the RCM themselves, I do not think it applies to the secondary market. You should be safe.

So,the dealers over here would be banned from buying these direct from the Royal Canadian Mint.I think it is ridiculous that you have to buy them through a middleman.

I don't think there were any rows at the time that the 2006 Winter Olympic Games Italian commemorative 2 Euros was issued. The same thing applies to the 2004 Olympic Games Greek commemorative 2 Euros.

In that case, I should get some.

Yeah, I can see the eBay listings now:

    "Contraband Coins From Canada!"
"Banned for Sale, But Get Them Here!"

    "PF-75!"
[Oops, sorry, confused this thread with the one about a certain grading service :D]

And do you further suppose the IOC will "advise" eBay (as in, "or else") to cancel all listings that are made from outside of Canada and/or state that the seller will ship outside of Canada? VeRO, here we come...

Twiggs,I can understand the Euro coins from San Marino & the Vatican City being worth US$399,but the Canadian coins is a different story.

The Royal Canadian Mint should release the 2010 Winter Olympic Games coins into circulation as a way of defusing the row.I don't see why the Winter Olympic Games Organising Committee & the International Olympic Committee should force the Royal Canadian Mint to charge medal-coin prices for these coins.

I'm getting both Olympic quarters in my change all the time. Of course, the circulation stops there as I hang onto them to swap for other coins. ;)

Chris,is it only 25c. coins being issued as part of this programme,or are there other denominations being issued as well? It is good that you are hanging onto the Winter Olympic Games coins,& offloading the Caribou 25c. coins.

Defiant7,it is brilliant that there will be 2 $1 coins as well.Eventually,I will have to start getting more additions to my small collection of commemorative Loonies. It would be cool if there was a commemorative Twoonie being issued as well.

I imagine those will be next to impossible to get....like the other 2 lucky loonies

They turn up from time to time, but not very often at all. I have found, though, that the lucky loonies are generally in better shape than the regular loonies, probably because they' haven't circulated as much. I've found that the loonies tend to show wear very quickly and it's very difficult to find them in good condition once they've hit circulation.
