    .....but I'll still have typos.

    Hey folks,
Some of you know that I've been here for few months now. I REALLY enjoy the site. So much information and opinions shared.

I have noticed one disturbing trend though. KNOW IT ALLS.
Hey, it's great that there are SO MANY REALLY KNOWLEDGEABLE members out there but must you talk down to those that aren't as savvy?

Honestly it really doesn't bother me personally. Irritates me a bit when I'm the target but I can take it.
What bothers me is the way some people respond to "newbies". I'm talking newbies to the greatest hobby on earth here.

MOST of the time when these people ask a question they get GREAT advice and opinions but on other occasions it's more like "how can you be so stupid?".

I look at it this way, these people have taken the time to find the site in order to learn. A question may seem silly to some but think about when you first decided to start collecting. Did you know what you do now?

Many of us go way back before computers and had to buy books and read and most of us still do but is it that difficult to share what you've learned in a civil manner?

I can be curt myself and often without intending to be. Some of what I see is just plain rude.
Think about that the next time your fingers touch the keyboard.

P.S. I actually do know the average air speed of an unladen swallow (both African and European)!

I told you there would be typos. It's actually "the average air speed velocity of an unladen swallow"

The greatest gift that the experts here can give me is to very bluntly tell me when I'm wrong. It has saved me large amounts of grief and money. I don't consider it talking down to me. I consider it a very clear and direct comment that will be hard to misinterpret, and I am thankful for it.

If you know everything, what is the worlds tallest (base to peak, not highest at the top) mountain? You might be surprised when you look up the answer.

Seriously, I have seen a several posts having no business being so crude - including a couple posted yesterday. The underlying message may be appropriate, but the wording was far from it.

I agree - I like direct. The written word does not often reflect what is intended from the poster.

    Nice post, Clembo.
I kind of got that impression when I first came to CoinTalk.
Although, I was also very impressed with the warm welcomes I received.
Every forum on the net has its little "cliques".
You just have to have a bit of thick skin when starting out, so people can feel you out and get to know you.
Personally, I don't feel I have earned the respect of many people here, yet.
This is because a lot of times I really don't add a lot of positive information to the topic.
I tend to just throw in a little joke or something.
I am mainly here to learn and the quality posters that are here have helped me immensly.
Sometimes they can be a little cold and critical, but I've learned to overlook such things.
I had to, as I used to be the type of guy that hunted people down that peeved me and confronted them on their doorstep.
You just can't do that in todays society.

Your point is more than valid, but you just have to take into account how many times some of these pros have repeated the same information, over and over.
Also, as it has already been mentioned, true intentions don't always come across through text on a forum.
We all just need to give each other the benefit of the doubt and continue to educate one another the best way we can.
    :)

A BIG thank you to the "know it alls" out there.
    ;)

    Ok.....

Thanks for the input everyone. Some very valid points and all locked away in my head now.

Yup, some people do come across as rude in my opinion but your comments have given me a bit more insight as to why.
I'm more than a somewhat newbie to CT. I'm a newbie to forums. That shows how much I like this place as I NEVER thought I'd be sitting here reading and posting for hours at a time.

I'd still like to see people treat the "newbies to the hobby" a little better at times.

Rotobeast, I'm a lot like you in the humor department. I see something funny in almost everything. Helps keep me sane actually. I really am a serious guy though.

    Thanks again everyone,

... now about that group hug....

I think you may have been right the first time. Doesn't velocity and speed mean the same thing?
So air speed velocity is redundant?
As far as your other comments, point valid. I have never been on a forum where this isn't the case.
If one exists let me know! Sometime look up what Sigmund Freud said about the human ego.

I think inspite of the fact that we all share one hobby, people are people and they bring their personalities into the mix along with there modest or considerable knowledge. You learn over time who to listen to and who to ignore. Just like you do outside of cyberspace. It's no different just a bit tougher when you can't actually see the person's face and apply your usual daily biases. It takes some getting used to but eventually a person's true colors come shining through.

It'a actually air speed velocity of an unladen swallow if you've seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail enough times.
Obscure movie reference but I knew someone would catch it. Drusus caught it immediately so get's a prize of a gold star and a happy face!

Speed is the rate of motion, often expressed as distance d traveled per unit of time t. Speed is a scalar quantity with the dimensions of distance/time.

Velocity is a vector quantity. While measured in the same units as speed, velocity has the added element of direction. Speed is the magnitude component of velocity.
