Hi folks! Iwas going through the mint site and noticed that they sell bags of coins at a premium to face value. Assuming these are uncirculated coins, what is a reason for buying them? Wouldn't they be all scratched and dinged being loose in the bag and banging against each other?? Just wondering...
Besides the obvious premium over face value, and the additional profit to the mint, you make a good case for NOT buying the coins.
Just curious, would you say the same about the coins in rolls bought from the mint ? They are the very same coins and just as beat up as those in the bags.
bag of unc coins i would like to have a bag of unc coins at face value. if the bank willing to let me change it. well, what should i do with those new coins?. i will use some. i will play with it. i will keep some for fun too. nothing losing. isn't it?. but paying a premium. no way jose.
Yes, but less scratched and banged up than just getting a CIRCULATED roll from the bank (which is the only reason one would buy an uncirculated roll or bag). As someone already said, some buy to search for errors or to have particular mint marks (to put together sets to sell). Also they may send the best off to be graded. Most of the people I know who buy rolls hope that the value of the roll will increase (I guess with the idea that they will sell the roll at a later date).
get to know your banker and get rolls with no premiem, also get the nickels, dimes and cents. The bank is a much better place to buy these (except you can only get one mint mark (P on the east coast D on the west coast).
