I love the one from ellis island, it ties in history and culture with millions of americans ancestry all contained within a modern design!!!!!!! amazing!
I have been to Ellis Island... boring! Sorry.. I know it has a historical status but nothing there but empty buildings an monotonous tour guides
I think the Effigy Mounds may look pretty dull and I'm equally pessimistic about how the Ellis Island would turn out. I like the left Ellis Island the best but I'm not sure it would translate well into a coin.
I don't like the NJ left coin - building looks like the entrance to Auschwitz which is really creepy.
The Iowa looks horrendous, lets just skip that one if it is the best they can do. Yes the Statue of Liberty Commen
Forget Iowa. I like the left NJ coin better. Only because they look more excited to be coming to America. They're still on the boat, pointing, almost with excitement. The right coin, I just don't see their excitement to be in America. Let's just look the other way.
Those Iowa designs look like they're ready to displace Wyoming for "worst quarter design ever". Okay, maybe not -- at least the effigies in the Iowa design were actually featureless 2D silhouettes to begin with. But featureless 2D silhouettes make for boring coins. I love both the Ellis Island designs. I think I lean toward the one on the right. Regardless of facial expressions or gaze directions, the heavily pregnant mother really conveys "hope for a brighter future".
While the artist who made the Iowa design can only do so much since he/she is depicting piles of dirt, that design is complete trash.
The Ellis Island coin on the right. Although it may be empty now, my late mother in law came through there as an Italian refugee during WWII.
I was born and raised in Iowa...I have to say, my home state just stepped on their own pee-pee with that one. They should be charged with felonious numismatics for that abomination!
