Have a few Morgans and I know what a VAM is. My Question is are they worth collecting, One friend says NO,because thiers to many variations, another friend says there's to small a premium on them. I looked around and found a few, slabbed by ANACS grades middle AU to MS60-61, so I'am still on the fence. Would welcome your input.. also the ones I'am finding are low priced with a LOT of bag marks, scratches mottling etc. $20 to $30 bucks in those grades. Thanks..
Are VAM's slight die variations on Morgans? I do not know about investment potential but personally, anything I can't clearly see with the naked eye doesnt seem much fun..But then again collecting is a very personal business. One man's tedium is another's bliss!
The VAM book is about 2 inches thick and filled with many that are practiacally indistinguishable from one another. I've never heard of a complete set, truely a goal for a Bill Gates type. But there are many that are interesting and worth collecting if you like. The Peace dollar series may offer a more "completeable" set. Try to look for them though, the right ones like the top 50 or top 100 can still be cherrypicked from dealers that don't look.
There are collectors who go absolutely gaa-gaa over VAMS. So are they worth collecting - apparently a lot of folks think so. The only thing that matters is - are they worth it to you ?
I do like the big VAM varieties such as the hot lips, but for the most part, it takes a lot of time to distinguish the little die varieties. As far as collectibles, they are a hot market to the select group that looks for them.
i'm trying to learn something about the vam varieties and i have that cute little book, but if i can't see the variety fairly easily than i most likely won't go out of my way to get it. i love my morgans plain and simple.
