What is a reasonable prices for a VF30 1916-S Walker in a PCGS slab? In VF the gray sheet has $375 ask and in XF it is $515 ask. Are the currnet gray sheet prices accurate? Recently I am noticing early walkers are being sold well above ask. Any thoughts?

I may be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that CDN was doing away with the "Ask" prices since very few dealers were using them.

Gray sheet prices are not set in stone and many of the prices are absolutely inconsistent with real world prices. It's only supposed to be used as a reference of sorts whatever that means. As far as I 'm concerned, if you follow ebay for a few weeks you could definitely get a better deal! thumbsup.gif just my 2 cents! Sure, it won't be in a slab, but you can't always get what you want. tmoney.gif

You're correct as they did do away with the ask price Chris .

Have you checked the Heritage archives , also it would depend on the coin . Not all VF-30 coins are equal , some barely make the grade and some are almost a 40 . Also one with great eye appeal will always sell for more than a crusty example .

You are correct about the gray sheet, mine is from Dec 2015 so they probably did change that. This is the VF30 coin I am looking at.

I just purchased one in VG-8, raw from a local dealer at $125.00. It's a nice clean but circulated coin. PCGS in VF-30 I would think about $175.00-$200.00.

Nut, the price is all over the place. On ebay, in high VF they are looking for around $550 to $600.

I found several below $200.00. Why would you ant to pay more for the same coin in the same grade, especially when it's slabbed?

It's not that very few were using them , , , it's the fact that the Ask prices were almost always 10% higher than Bid, and therefore not worth using up so much valuable real estate in the publication.

Yep, I understand the ask price dilemma. But Iwill say this - if there is a 16-S in VF30 in the $200 range, I would love to see it.

Excuse me! I forgot that the "Ask" price should be lower than the "Bid".

Dime, I agree...find me a VF30 slabbed for $200.00 I would jump on it! I think a reasonable price to a dealer would be at least $250.00

There is no way a dealer would sell this for $275

More like 350-500 if you go check the sales record. VG 10 is about as high as you can reasonably expect for under 200, if you are lucky the occasional F-12 goes for under 200. Claiming to find VFs under 200, maybe if they're all details coins.

In the past I have used a simple formula for bidding on Walkers. I take the retail PCGS or NGC price and multiply by .55 to .65 depending on the coin. I recently bid on and won this 36-S ms65 PCGS...for 500.00 (875.00 PCGS guide x .57...I think I got a great coin at a very good price) 1936 P MS65 obv.jpg . If you applied the same "formula" to this 16-S it would be 500.00 x .57 = 285.00
