Which pricing guide do you use to value your coins? For expmaple: Candian 1948 50 Cent F condition> Charlton Guide - $100.00 Coin News Trend - $115.00 OTher Guides - $95.00 Retail Price Guide - $65.00 Dealer Price - $125.00 to $145.00 Market value - $98.00 (from Liberty Street) Cheers
Don't forget exchange rates - The Charlton value of CAD$100 is currently US$94 + change. That said, recent auctions remain the most accurate price guide because of one word - recent. Charlton, like Krause, lists prices that are probably 1-2 years old at the time of publication. Monthly guides are usually giving you prices 2-4 months old and quarterlies can easily be 6-8 months out of date by publication. Your list does demonstrate one thing - in the current rising market, dealer sales prices are generally higher than printed price guides.
For U.S. coins I use the 2008 Red Book and Numismedia.com. I find both of these reasonably accurate valuations. Of course, a recent examination of completed sales of similar items on Ebay is usually the most realistic way to guage a coins value.
I check the current places like numismedia, even though they are on the low side, and sometimes, ebay. The best results are by searching and searching to build a reliable value
Hummmmmm...my collection...what's it worth... anyone care to guess?? Paper, Gold, Plat, Silver.....not trying to Hijack the thread! Just find this to be a rather personal question... ANy ideas?? I am curious to see if anyone may even be in the ball park?? RickieB
Hmmm - more than some and less than others. My ballpark is really big. I believe he was asking how you value it not what it is worth. I use coin elite software and just let the prices populate - these prices remind me of the redbook prices, a little to high.
I'm going to guess your collection to be worth $60,000, considering you are a collector of AGEs and APEs. (I actually think your collection is probably worth much more, but I don't want to look too stupid if I'm totally off base.) Ummm ... not to pick nits, or even to knit pickels, but you forgot to mention the prize for the closest guesser ! :smile
I never worry about what my collection is worth, and I've never tried to calculate the value. I just sort of take it one coin at a time and try to make sure I like every one of them and the price I paid.
I apologizes for the wording. Value or Worth, actually that is minor. I am sure you get the point of the question. I agree that the two are different, a collection of sentimental value has a value or worth that cannot be defined. If you spend money I am sure you are hoping to get the most value for your purchase. And visa versa if you are selling. But anyone that has a collection puts some value or worth, whatever, to it. The question was what method do you use to arrive at your value or worth. If you use software, it in its self uses a value or worth calculation. Which one? Market, retail,or trend. Cheers
Hey Wayne... No apology needed...I understood your thread. Beside, I would never tell. There are some folks here that could have an accurate guess...but I will not say who..LOL For me I use several methods such as software, date and price of metals when I purchased (going back to 1986) coin world, NN and Grey Sheet...... Have a great weekend!!! RickieB
I have no idea and to be honest not realy interested as I have no intention of selling any of it LOL as for the insurance we have a special due to the amount of collectables i & Mrs Orc have
I can never decide. Once i bothered to work out the mean of loads of different catalogue prices for my coins, but that was about eight months ago........and I havn't bothered since.
Welcome aboard, rickbe. I don't know what my collection is worth,as I only buy for my collection these days.I'm not interested in selling my collection.I am hoping to pass it down as my personal legacy to my family, even though I am not married yet,nor have I got children yet. Aidan.
Most likely you have a 1957 silver cert . There is not a 1937 series. If it is in less than choice CU condition it has a value of only $2 or so depending on who wants it. Series 1957 Notes are still very commom in the paper money world .But I would still hang onto it just because they are cool-
