I believe this to be (but I am uncertain) - SELEUKID KINGS of SYRIA. Antiochos II Theos. 261-246 BC. Æ 16mm, 3.0 g. Obv: Diademed head of Antiochos I right Rev: Apollo seated left on omphalos, holding bow and testing arrow; monogram to outer left and right. Antioch on the Orontes mint. Ref:SC 351.1; HGC 9, 169 Can you confirm this for me, please?
Nice => that's a very cool coin, Topcat (congrats) ... Antiochos-II, eh? Sorry, but I've only got an Antiochos-I, VI and VIII ..... *rats* (I need more coins) A-I A-VI A-VIII
Those are really great coins, Steve. You can't go wrong with Elephants, and Owls (waiting for another one to arrive). I like the 'bottle-top' coins because they are different from ALL of the rest (I only have three - unattributed). You have some really nice coins there.
I can't confirm if the OP coin is Antiochos II, but I do have a few Tets and this one should be of A-III, Antioch mint, with the familiar devices:
Wow! Mikey. Is that silver, or just the light. My poor old 'beaten up' coin in such illustrious company.
that looked choppy for antiochos III Mikey, but his portrait did vary a bit. Fairly certain this was III
i'm not exactly sure TC, you correct about the devices...and i'd bet good money it's an antiochus...but i'm not sure which one.
I have this lovely Antiochus I. Seleucid Kingdom Antiochus I Soter (r. BC 281-261). AR Tetradrachm 30 mm x 17.11 grams Seleucia on the Tigris Obverse: Diademed head of Antiochus right Reverse: Apollo seated left on omphalus, examining arrow held in right hand and resting left on grounded bow.
