Hey all I need some help with this SBA, I picked up 17 SBA today the bank teller told me she got these today when I went to pick up some nickels to go through and I said sure why not. I just started to look at them and found this first thing. There is something going on on the first L of dollar on the right wing below e pluribus the rim the fg on reverse, on the obverse I seen a few things as well. I put some arrows on things that look off to me. I cant find much on the internet about SBA errors so I'd appreciate opinions and thank you.
@eric6794 Have you ever heard the saying, "You can't see the forest for the trees."? Well, before you start using a USB microscope to examine all of the microbes that are moving around on your coins (like another member seems to enjoy doing!) why don't you take the time to examine a more obvious cause for such anomalies. Do you see all of those striations that seem to be pointing toward the outer edges of the coin? What do they tell you about the coin? The answer should be fairly easy because it has been mentioned over and over again in other threads. Chris
I examined it through a loop first and seen what looked like some metal that was raised coming off the 2nd L in dollar and above the right wing I took a toothpick and it wouldn't come off so I assumed it was metal but after looking at it more and giving it an acetone bath it must have been some type of glue. I guess I'll them a bath in acetone first before posting from now on.
punctuation police? Forgive me but I worked 16 and a half hours yesterday so my typing, grammar and punctuation skills wasn't at it best last night.
Eric, those striations that I mentioned are indicative of die deterioration. Therefore, the oddities that you noticed are very probably due to the same deterioration. Chris
