I've had my bank in Florida FCB, order $500 of 1/2 dollars & found 3 64 Kennedy's. Didn't know as much as I do know (and now I know everything, except 95%) I ordered 2 boxes $25 of pennies & first box maybe 3 wheats & nothing else of importance. 2nd box I've found average 2-3 wheats per roll & lots of error coins due to more knowledge I've picked up here. Also in many rolls appeared to be from a metal detectors finds as they were gritty, dirty, etc. but a ton of 1960s-90s some with errors like die cracks, chips, etc. Keep Hunting & Good Luck to all. My best luck has been at flea markets & garage sales!
I have only been doing this for a month and a half and have only had luck with dimes. The bank I use is a national chain and it seems the halves I get have been pillaged already. I see all sorts of marks on the halves that looks like someone is tagging their searches already.
I can do several cent boxes and find under 10 wheats per box and then have a box like a couple of weeks ago where I found 130. My record is 146 and 76 of them were BU 1943 steels. In customer wrapped rolls I have gotten solid wheat rolls, and a couple of years ago a solid silver Roosevelt roll!
Nothing wrong with bank wrapped rolls. Just try them and eventually you'll get lucky. I had a 7 wheatbacks roll in January.
I find bank wrapped rolls to be more consistent....because what you get is more random you're less likely to hit a jackpot but you are also less likely to be skunked. I find that with CWRs, although that's where you hit the occasional jackpot they are also the types of rolls where you find nothing good. A roll that some elderly person wrapped from change that's been sitting in a jar for decades can be a jackpot, on the other hand CWR's created by people who don't let their change accumulate for long (or worse, dump rolls from other coin hunters) will be total duds. At least with bank wrapped rolls there is a randomness to it that ensures occasional good finds, which is better than being skunked.
I'd like to have a hefty bank balance. At least enough to order the $500 boxes of halves they need to special order. I'll get there, God willing and with His help!
I also belong to a credit union I get some nice coins from them yes I go thru a lot but the service is great
My bank sometimes has Ike dollars but that's about it. But I've gotten tons of small head paper money from the bank.
