This is a nickel from a 2007 silver proof set. What kind of error is this? It looks like a gash in the coin. Is it Rare? Valuable?
That's why I wanted a better close-up. Even your enlargement is blurry, and it is hard to tell if it is a strikethrough or some sort of damage. NOTE: Just because it is in a Mint case doesn't mean that it wasn't swapped out for an undamaged coin. Chris
Sorry, I don't have a better picture. The coin is at my mother's house. My father purchased it directly from the mint by mail so I don't think the coin was swapped. I don't think it looked like lamination. It looked like something gouged the coin. I am not saying that happened, only what it looked like.
Like I said, it could be a strikethrough, so it could have occurred during the minting process. I still need a clear close-up to make up my mind. Chris
When I looked at the coin, it appeared to have been debossed at an angle. You can see material from the coin surface moved from one side of the mark to the other.
