What do you think would be the “best- way” to liquidate my business-note collections? Thanks (in advance) for any suggestions… My itemized inventory list of 968 individual $1 Federal Reserve notes from 1963 through 2009 has been updated. In addition to some Key-Block notes, Radar, Specialty Serials, and others it now includes: 77 4-note- sheets, 35 1988a WEB’s, 4 1993 WEB’s, and 16 1995 WEB’s. No Stars are included as they are what I now collect by series/block/run…
You need to get in front of some serious collectors. Key block notes, those from WEB presses, sheets, etc... are not a beginners or casual collectors item. I would take them to a major show in hopes that a paper currency dealer might have a client looking for them. I'm not sure, but perhaps most of your one dollar small business notes are just common issues and are only worth face. Hopefully that same dealer might help you decide. Radar and specialty serial numbers can be sold on eBay to just about anyone. The younger crowd likes words such as "cool" or "almost" so use a lot of adjectives when you describe them. They'll sell.
eBay is the best way to liquidate anything. Esoteric items must be listed as fixed price or "Buy It Now" with a possible "Best Offer" feature if you do not mind being bothered. I believe the Best Offer feature can be set to a value above which the offer is immediately accepted without your involvement. Best Offer feature comes with an additional charge in the listing fees. Set your fixed price at some percentage of Book value you are comfortable with say 50% or 60% or you can list them at book value and have the Best Offer at these percentages. In any case do NOT EVER list an esoteric item as a .99 cent start auction. You will get robbed by some sharpie. One cent or 99 cent start auctions work out great for common junk and bulk lots. You can sometime achieve some amazing results.
I believe the International Paper Money Show is the first of June. If you could make it, you could possibly make a deal there.
Thank you ALL for your comments and suggestions. I will take them under advisement. I had hoped for a single solution, I once was a large user of eBay, but not anymore. As you can see, much to much holdings and not enough time or interest to wait for individual sales/trades.
If you're in the Chicago area, the Chicago Paper Money Expo is at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Rosemont. March 17-20. That's a good show to go to.
Here is another one that might interest you. Although it says Greater Chicago, it's more like the Central States Show in attendance. ATTACH]480077[/ATTACH]
