Right now I am trying to decide which reverse proof silver eagle to purchase. I've been offered one graded by PCGS (PR 69) for only about $20 more than the same coin graded by NGC. I have purchased very few graded coins thus far, and am wondering if the PCGS grade is really more conservative and therefore more valuable than those graded same by NGC. Which one would you guys buy? Thanks in advance for your responses!
There seems to be a difference in grading standards between NGC and PCGS for the silver reverse proof, with NGC garding a higher percentage of PF-70's than PCGS. Therefore, a NGC 70 may be only a 69 with PCGS, therefore a PCGS 70 is worth more than a NGC 70. But since basically all silver reverse proofs are 69 or 70 (only a handfull of 68's with each service), 70 means "perfect" and 69 is everything else. I don't see how a PCGS 69 could be considered any more valuable from a NGC 69. I would get the NGC.
I have purchased 25 NGC PF69's in the past 3 months and I only 3 PCGS PR69's. I personally like the looks of the NGCS more but PCGS slabs do tend to bring a higher price. NGC here! It's the coin not the holder.....I might just send them back in and see how many come back as 70's!!
Thanks! I really appreciate all the great advice. I'll definitely be getting the NGC reverse proof graded PR69!
If you can tell the difference between the NGC and the PCGS Proof 69 then buy the better coin. Either one would make a fine addition to your collection. If you buy them both you'll have 2 fine coins!
2006 P NGC REVERSE PROOF 69 was offered for $415.00. Same coin, same grade by PCGS was $435.00, but that was a few days ago. I hope he (coin club assoc.) still has them at that price. Do those prices seem fair? I know on ebay they're rising fast with some already $500 to $550.
Coin in hand is a much better way to purchase them, no waiting. I think 415 is still very reasonable. By the time you pay shipping and insurance you're right at 415+.
If you can tell the difference, show proof by way of pics. My opinion..... The difference between MS70-PF70 and MS69-PF69 by either of these is nil.......
Hi Cointalk members, Great to be here with the wise. I'm recently reached a new level in my life and have decided to invest in coins, while other friends of mines maybe into investing in firearms, fishing rods, or bicycles, I am taking the route of collecting silver and maybe gold coins. I've recently joined CT and have been reading about the 2011 ASE A25 set. I am interested in purchasing a MS/PF70 set and comes with the nice government casing from ebay which I’ve seen go for $1300. But I was thinking, what I really want is the Early release reverse proof PF70 only, but if I decided I wanted to get the whole set of PF/MS70 of 5 coins, can I just purchase each one individually and still have the save value even without the nice government display casing? Hi Cointalk members, Thank you in advance for your advise and guidance.:hail:
why I see most of the time NGC ms70 is better than PCGS ms70 , but the price of pcgs is always attract to the buyer more?
I've posted on the wrong thread, I'm so sorry. How would I delete it? It was very late night when I posted and I had quite a few windows opened.
