Just got this coin, and it is really nice. Has Arctic frost all day, and incredibly deep mirrors. How did this one miss a 65PL? The scratch on the reverse is on the holder. Perhaps an under graded (by today's standards) 65PL? May submit minimum grade for upgrade or just leave it, knowing that I think it is under graded.
Nice one! I think it would very probably upgrade to 65PL. Nothing wrong with leaving it in the green label holder though.
Nice pickup. Personally from the pictures I am not sure it would upgrade, but it also very well might. Can just be a toss up at times.
Yep, I don't think the grade is right....and the holder is old too! Ewww, 2 problems right there.....you better send it to me, I'll take this coin with BOTH of it's problems off your hands free of charge lol Seriously though, congrats on such an attractive piece. Whether or not it would upgrade, I don't know. But I do know how much better it feels to own a coin where you wonder if it could upgrade instead of worrying that it might downgrade.
I agree. Think I will keep it there, and send it out for a bean, that it is very likely to get. Looks wise, the surfaces are cleaner than my 1883o PL MS 65+. Side by side, you would grade them the same. However, I like the idea of OGH and green or gold bean.
You would probably get a higher grade but I'd take the old green holder over the upgrade. The upgrade is a chance and the OGL is a sure thing.
Gonna send it off next week for the beanie. Notice that after selling my toners, I am collecting high grade and high eye appeal PL coins.
Nice coin. I agree with the grade based on the pictures. I do like the fields as they appear to be very nice. Let us know if CAC blesses it with a sticker.
I think a bean is a good idea. Nice coin. Today I think it's a 64+ low end 65. I see it with a green not a gold. I like the old green pcgs the best myself anyway
That may green but most likely won't gold. Gold stickers really have to smack of grade injustice and not the sort of technically could could higher. It is a decent coin so enjoy it as is.
Too scuffy on the face. Even though they're not deep hits, there are still too many to get 65. Trying to judge from just the picture, it does look like PL by today's standards. Many coins in old PL holders would not be called PL today.
That is the camera. The face is more frosty, than hit on the face. There is a die crack on the top left of the obverse. Usually coins do not get downgraded for die cracks, but it might have happened. To me, I agree with the 64+ or low 65 evaluation. A local dealer friend is certain it will green bean, and he is sending it to CAC for me for free, as I have bought lots of coins from him.
