Bought this in a box of random coins. Why would someone pay to have this 15 cent coin graded? I'll answer my own question: Maybe because he thought it was a DD.

No, I see nothing unusual about it. Just a plain 1955.

Could have thought that. Could also have thought it was a much better grade. It also may have just been one of those specials with a minimum coin number and was just a throw in to reach that

Probably, because it would have cost $10-$20 to have it graded plus shipping. The penny is only worth 15 cents.

Of course, someone may have only wanted to slab it... I could understand, although it is an expensive process.

Maybe it had some kind of sentimental value at one time or another. Who knows....If coins could only talk.

when i am older i may slab the first coin that i purchased even though it is only worth a dollar (right now) =) just because it means so much to me.

Could also be that all the other coins in the collection are slabbed. I had ANACS do a couple 3-7$ coins for that reason.

Maybe the coin was special to HIM. It could have had sentimental value.

It was a total of about 30 coins, lose wheat's, a couple of buffalo nickel's, one Mercury dime, a couple of Roosevelt dimes. All not in very good condition. I paid $25.00 for the lot. The slab was in with it. A guess it was less then a $1.00 but there were a bunch of useless wheat cents I bought that I didn't need or want.
