I'm just saying that it looks to be an average bullion piece. Nothing wrong with that. I just am curious why you are trying to assign a grade to it.
@Write2bfree , welcome to Coin Talk. I see that you're a relatively new member. Have you collected these bullion pieces before or is this your first one? If you were to send it to a TPG, the grade would be MS66 ish. For this series, if the coin isn't either a 69 or 70, than it trades/sells close to it's silver content. Because of the blemishes no the coin, it's not worth grading.
Do you like this series? If yes, there is a really nice book written by John Mercanti. He designed the reverse of the bullion piece. It will help explain the 3 types (not including the anniversary reverse proofs and special finish coin) of American Silver Eagles coined by the U.S. Mint each year.
Thank you! Ill check out the book! Im going to keep these cause its sentimental. My parents collected these and left me these so I thought I get them graded and just hold on to them. I have 10 of these types of bullion.
I wouldn't bother getting them graded. It'd cost more than they are worth. As for sentimental value, that's priceless. Definitely hold onto them.
They're a wonderful series to collect and might lead you to look at other series as well. Are you aware the obverse of the coin is a tribute to the design on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar that circulated in the mid 1900's? I've always wanted a salt water tank and I love corals. Unfortunately I move a lot so right now I only have a 125gal fresh water setup
