    Shelia, it's a pointy thing! It looks like the coin took a hit (PMD) in that area. The surface has been gouged prior to plating but it's hard to tell from the shadow in your photo. Look at it closely if you can, under magnification to be sure. :)

    Just a gouge into the coin causing the metal to be pushed up a little to form your "pointy thing"

    I see it now. I didn't have the right lighting before. Lol. Oops. I had to move to a different room for better lighting.
