NO. First you tell me what you think a "slider is." Then tell me what you think "most dealers would sell for 60 money" (HINT #1 MS-60 ) means. Hint#2 (Dave Bowers has written that many coins that were formerly considered to be AU are now graded in the lower MS range).
A "Slider" is an coin that technically grades AU-58, in other words it shows just the barest hint of wear on the high points, but retains almost all of the original luster. The term "slider" comes from the commercial consideration that the coin can "slide" up in grade from AU to become an "Unc". I'm guessing a MS60 1937 Buffalo= about $22.00. I'm not as old as you and I "obviously" haven't been collecting long enough. I've been on CT for less then a year. No need to apologize, I know your reputation....I can deal with it. So bottom-line here: You're telling me in your personal and professional, the above 1937 Buffalo nickel is at best a MS60? Really?
Easy right? Now one little suggestion you may wish to try these terms so more collectors will agree with you: "Liner" usually is used when a coin is borderline between two grades while "Slider" is usually used to describe an About Uncirculated coin which many would "slide" up to an Uncirculated. This does not mean the coin is really Uncirculated. "Slider" has a "bad" connotation as many of the people selling "sliders" as Unc's are not on the up-and-up. Something else to consider: If the TPGS are applying the commercial "grading of today" as described by Bowers (many formerly graded AU coins are now considered Uncirculated0; are they not grading "sliders?"
Great answers! You have learned a lot in the short time you have been collecting! Notice that I edited my post because I was being "snarky to you." My reason was I could not believe you even asked that question based on our PM's! Not at all. The Buffalo is an AU-58, just as you said. I should NEVER grade it Unc. However, many people (including TPGS's) do depending on what the coin looks like in hand. Furthermore, many dealers/collectors would sell it as low MS. I'm not one of them.
True, probably just the photos. NOT buffed! If it were, we would not be able to see the slightly different color on the high points of the hair that indicates it is a slider. Please remember this: ALL MY POSTS ARE JUST MY SINGLE OPINION.
So assuming this is a valid website, what category do you think mine falls under? Look closely. http://coinauctionshelp.com/How_To_Grade_Buffalo_Nickels.html#.VsYeTBi7W-p
I've already graded your coin as AU-58. According to the link it closely resembles the MS-63. What is the point of this?
I agree with @Insider this coin appears to have a slight amount of wear on the Top of Buffalo Horn and small amount on Hair and Braid of Indian. AU58. Better photos without the shine would be needed to up this grade, but at this point that would be my opinion. @Numisma I know that is the new hamburger title but personally I do not want anything SLIDING in my mouth. YUCK
