someone gave me some wheat pennies in an envelope press because they knew I like to keep them. I looked closely at them and found a 46-S that looks to have a Y in place of a T in the word TRUST. has anyone ever heard of this or seen this before? there is no damage to the coin, therefore I assume it was minted like this. gonna try to load a pic so you guys can see it. it is visible to the naked eye, and very visible with magnification.
It does look like a "Y" from where I sit. It didn't come from the mint like that. Take a better pic and post it.
this is the best pic I could get, sorry. got a coin dealer checking on it for me(pics only). this is the way it came to me, but it has no damage as far as being bent or anything.
wish I knew how it was "damaged". there is no bending or scratches, and the rim is almost perfect, considering the age of the coin.
@TJ1952 thank you, some would say I am almost blind due to optic neuritis. I can not see the Y without my very strong glasses, but other people can...I have to use strong magnification to notice most things, and did on this coin. the rim is for the year of the coin in almost perfect condition, with no dents, dings, or bends....
The reason you don't see damage as you think it would have is because it's been circulated for 70 years now.... it's worn
Even though the photo isn't that good, I'm leaning toward PMD as well. If this anomaly was part of the die, there would be thousands of them in circulation. Chris
It's strange, sometimes, how a coin can take a perfect "hit" by another coin or object and creates something that looks completely original. But this coin (is) circulated so I am going with one of those kind of hits or PMD.
