Hello everyone, This is my first time I have ever wanted to submit a coin to get it graded. I went on Youtube to watch a video on how to submit coins to NGC. So I bought plastic (not sure what they are called but found them in a coin section at the store) So today was the day that I was going to go on line and fill out my form. Just to make sure I was doing this right I again went to Youtube and found another video on how to submit coins to NGC. He said you can only submit coins in hard plastic covers which I don't have, is there anyone who can send me a good link on how to submit coins to NGC correctly? I would appreciate it, thank you.
I been collecting a very long time myself. Some years back, I figured I should my coins of value graded so it would be easier for my wife to liquidate them once I leave this party.... I have probably had twenty pieces or so slabbed over the years and in each case, I partnered up with my coin dealer or a buddy that was in the know and piggybacked my coins with theirs..... I know it isn't a direct answer to your question, but I found it to be most effective way for me to get it done.
That is false. I use oversized flips. This is the link you need. https://www.ngccoin.com/submit/how-to-package/ Here is even more details: https://www.ngccoin.com/resources/pdf/ngc-ncs-fillable-pdf-instructions.pdf?cb=2018-12-12 Good luck. p.s. Here are the flips I like to use: amazon link
Since you only have the one coin to submit I would suggest you wait until there is a coin show that you can get to. Some of the shows have a representative from a TPG there and you can submit with them. You can also talk to your local coin dealer and submit through. Hopefully you have a good relationship with them. Best wishes on whatever you decide. I want to ask if you have posted this coin on CT and asked for opinions. And don’t trust Utube.
You are just starting the submittal game. May I suggest you pm Insider, a member here and TPG Grader, and maybe consider submitting to the grading entity he represents. Not to mention a discount for CT members.
Submitting to a TPG can be a confusing task. I've never done it, but I have been considering it. I hope you can work it out and have a successful outcome.
I am going to order some these also and put my very special coins in these. I do not have many yet but I just started lol.
Since you used the word (letter?) "A", it implies only one coin. Sending only one coin is a very bad idea, because you are paying for the flat grading rate, along with the rate for the coin. Randy is right. This is absolutely the best way to do it, you will save costs. I have submitted only once, and it was paper money, but me and a close friend teamed up. It saved money.
Submitting is not a treat but once you learn how to do it, it becomes less daunting. You want over-sized non-pvc "flips". You can pick them up on ebay. It's just a piece of plastic with two pockets that you fold over. Raw coin goes in one pocket, the label you write up with unique form # and line # that coin is on, on form, gets slid into other pocket so it can be read when folded over. Then you just stack them in there like that and pack tight. They want this because they handle so much they want a quick, uniform method for separating coins from holders to get them in process without damaging them. You can submit in mint packaging if you want but theres a fee to get it sent back to you if you want. Other than that just make sure you check all the boxes you want and keep your own form and send the forms with that they need. You may end up folding them four times. Keep in mind there's a PO box address if shipping USPS and a different address if sending UPS or FedEx. If only sending one coin in it's as expensive to slab as possible because cost is not divided up among others. I always pay for the scratch resistant slab for $5 or $4.50 if you're a mid tier membership. Worth it to me. Best of luck.
Thank you, no I have not posted the coin on this site. I guess it's because I'm not sure if someone will tell me it's not worth it and I have decided to send it in to NGC out of curiosity. Thank you again
I sometimes think I should try and research on google or youtube to find out what I can but good grief! So many different answers so get's confusing. So if I can't understand the information I find on the internet I reach out to Coin Talk. From now on this will be the first place I will ask questions. THANK YOU!
I didn't see it posted in the thread so far.... Don't forget to post it here when it gets home so we can all oooo and ahhhh over it....
Oh goodness, didn't want to mislead anyone on this site, I was frustrated because I have never submitted a coin for grading, and to get info on how to submit coins to NGC has been so confusing. This is why I posted my message on this site (so glad I did, great information) I'm not someone who thinks this is a good coin I'm just curious about this one coin and what the out come will be. So not sure if there will be any OOOO's or AHHHHH's. LOL!
