Hey guys any idea as to a total value on this collection minus the wet ink transfer on the bottom right? Was wondering what a good starting price would be to offer the guy selling the lot
Sometimes I've taken the approach of asking the seller what a reasonable offer may be. This way I know #1 is it reasonable and a good buy and #2 can I afford it? I've got some good deals that way. Good luck, hope you get it, maybe with the dollar thrown in!
I would be very interested in the Wet-Ink-Transfer note. I collect Star and Error-notes. It would be very nice if that were a Star with the F2B error. The others represent too much variety for me to handle.
I think that 1899 $2 certificate (middle row, second to bottom may have dry rot. Dry rot causes the bill to become brittle and fall apart.
I offered 200 then 225 and he still wasn't interested nor did he counter. I'm assuming he thinks they are worth over 300
I ran a check on ebay for the sold auction prices for each of these bills and then lowered the value 10-50% (see attached photo) I came up with $452, so illuminate me as to why $300 is a fair price? Is it because you are buying the whole collection instead of per piece?
Did you take an average or did you just key off one sale? As someone else pointed out the $2 1899 has something going on with it. The edge is jagged and looks to be missing portions. That may need to be discounted more than 50%. If I were OP I wouldn't make an offer without seeing the items in person. Unless the seller has a good known reputation.
I looked at the lowest prices for notes that sold in the last few months and that were similar in condition or worse. I feel pretty confident that the value that I came up with would be realized in an ebay sale for each piece. But that being said, the more I think about it, the more I am becoming to understand why this board came up with $300 or less for this lot.
