Please have a closer look on this 1824 half Dollar. What's the grade, what's about the originality of the surface and the toning. What would you pay for this coin? Thanks.
Congrats on the Bustie! My fav. along w/seated stuff. This one has another 1/3 more surface thickness left than my 1825 example.
looks like a low end VF, hard to see the bust. Looks original. Nice coin. And thanks for not taking the picture in the flip.
Nice CBH is it a straight 24 or is it a 24 over? I'm seeing something to the west of the 4 and south. Maybe a 4/2 ?Not a 4 over 4 as I have had one of those and it's definitely not. I say vf plus 175.00 neighborhood .
I'm trying to figure out what is going on in the left obv. field next to star 2, just toning or some kind of impression in the metal. Details look VF30ish to me. Don't know about price.
VF30, maybe 35. On the other hand, I have an 1826 with similar wear. ANACS graded XF45. And I think it's an O-108. (Rarity R.2) Of course I'd want to see it in-hand. But if you put a gun to my head, based only on the photo I'd offer $100. Latest Greysheet says VF is $75, and XF is $135.
40 that may net to a 35. A bit hard to tell from pictures whether its crusty or retoned. Either way a nice looking example
VF35 weakness in Pluribus and States above it. Arrow tips pretty flat. Surface is a conundrum. Nice bust half, nonetheless
I agree with what Frank (treashunt) said, though I feel the coin could grade a bit higher than his assessment. Impudence on my part, as he's an expert in the series........ Your coin OP? (@Rheingold) I think it's lovely.
That's extremely typical with these early halves. These were minted before the steam press was in use.
Unfortunately it's not my coin yet. But I would like to buy it, if fully original and in the VF/xf camp. Seller from Europe wants 110 bucks.
From the director of the mint: "On the 23rd of March last (1836), the first steam coinage in America was executed at this Mint; and the performance of the press, in which the power of the lever is substituted for that of the screw, has answered all our expectations. . ."
Doesn't seem outrageous. I feel it a fair price and could be better in hand has a lot of meat and detail especially in the hair
To me the coin is middle to middle of VF. I am thinking the coin was just not fully struck - breast and E Pluribus Unum. In the end I think it looks original.
