Hello, all -- Frustrated by the fact that Capital Plastics 19th-century type set holder (Model 460) has no portal for a Draped Bust dollar, I have decided to reach out to Capital Plastics on getting a custom 19th-century type set holder made with room for a Draped Bust dollar. At this point, three phone calls that I made to the company over the past two months have been unreturned. While I wait for an eventual answer from the company on this inquiry, I wanted to see who else here has had a custom Capital Plastics holder made and what the overall design process and cost is like. I would appreciate any insights you may have! Thank you, Coinman1981
The only way I got them to make a custom holder for a Type B/Type C Washington Quarter Set was to have my local coin shop contact them for me and order a few.
I think it's because they already had a similar product in their inventory, just had to tweak it a bit. At least, that's what the coin shop told me.
That would make sense. I thought it would have been a lot higher but if people can keep it around that price the custom idea is a great one.
I had Capital Plastics make a custom holder for Large Cents, before the company was sold a number of years ago. The cost was significant, but I wanted it for a date set of LC's. Had the same issue as the OP with a Bust dollar in the Capital 19th Century type set holder. My holder was purchased many years ago so I don't know if the current holder is the same. On my holder there was blank space between the Capped Bust Half and the Liberty Seated Dollar. I took the center layer of the holder out to my shop and installed a hole to fit my Bust Dollar. Final fitting was done with a hand held fitting tool made with a carbide router bit on a wood handle. I'll post a pic if I can find it.... Please standby. Found it! A bit small but you can see where I added a hole for the Bust Dollar.
