About/Almost Uncirculated (AUNC) Condition for Paper Money

I have a question that suprisingly I could not find any answer online.
Below is the general description that we all know about AUNC:

ABOUT UNCIRCULATED (AU): A virtually perfect note, with some minor handling. May show very slight evidence of
bankcountingfolds at a corner or one light fold through the center, but not both. An AU note can not be creased, a
creasebeing a hard foldwhich has usually "broken" the surface of the note. Paper is clean and bright with original
sheen.Corners are not rounded.

I would like to know if a brand new banknote that fullfills all the criteria above but has relatively small tear (let's say 1 mm for a small banknote & 3 mm for a very large banknote) at one of the sides due to mishandling (and not due to wear & tear because this is new banknote). Can the banknote still be graded as AUNC condition or it will immediately be downgraded to VERY GOOD (VG)? Because VERY GOOD is the condition where tear is permitted.

AUNC description does not seem to address tear from mishandling. Just wonder if any of you have any experience/expertise to share in this area?

It will be great to hear back tips/comments from the experts here.
Or any online reference addressing this specifically will be highly appreciated if you have any!

by your definition it cannot be about uncirculated cause of the damage

 

the nis handling like tears are not counted as a gradeable note if you did send it it youd get a body bag

 

its like a tooled coin technically its still the coin but if its been modified or altered to be something it is not then its deemed no gradable

 

Absolutely incorrect. The paper money third party grading services will grade notes with tears, pinholes or even pieces missing.

I believe you are quoting from the IBNS grading standards. Those standards permit small tears up the grade of EF.

I would find it acceptable to grade it as AU with small tear on right side (or wherever). Will it get AU money? Of course not. EF money? That is up to the purchaser.

Most likely will grade AU or XF with a NET or APPARENT designation (describing the fault).
