Your question would be answered best by reading one of his books and deciding if he is the sort of author you might want to hear speak. Try the library for his older one if not the Augustus. I do not know his works.

I see the book on Amazon in English. I think I bought it at Half-Price Books recently. I will have to check when I get home.

Maybe you can watch the movie instead and hear great quotes like:
    "Nothing burps better than bacon."

Excellent book, I couldn't put it down. I like his style of writing. I bought some of his other books on ebay but I haven't got around to reading them yet.

Until I read this, I had never questioned the fact that there are no images of Augustus in his dotage, not on coins nor statues.

If there's an admission fee, can we go Dutch?

The description which Cyrrhus posted says that Goldsworthy also wrote Caesar, The Fall of Rome and The Roman Legions. And that his Augustus is a bestseller in the UK, US, DE, FR ... Sounds good. :)

I have read a couple of Goldworthy's books. I recommend...he seems a good author. I would definitely go to the Reading! I am very envious!
